I Have The Best Seat In The House
Susan Kimball, Administrative Assistant
10/7/2009 -

Susan with family

It seems hard for me to believe that as I write this I am celebrating my 2-year anniversary with the Foundation. I joined the staff on October 1, 2007 working part-time. With Martha Younginer’s retirement in February of 2008, I began to work full time. What a joy it has been to work with such a great staff. I have the best seat in the house! This is what I tell people who come to the Foundation’s Cary office. I am surrounded by the windows in the reception area and get to greet folks when they come in the door. I am most often the person who answers the phone, and I get to talk with folks from across the state. What a joy it is to make a new Foundation friend, for we have some of the best folks in the world who come through our doors and call us on the phone.

I am a native of Danville, Virginia and both my parents still live there. I am the oldest of three girls. (My Dad will tell you that there is a special place in heaven for a man with three daughters—I think he was referring to the fact that we only had one bathroom growing up and he had to be very patient!) Most of my family is still in Danville and I travel there as often as possible. What a privilege it was to grow up surrounded by extended family—grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. I am so glad that I have this heritage to offer to my two children. My son Elliott is 21 and a junior at Appalachian State University. My daughter, Ginny, is 15, a high school freshman and a recent recipient of her learner’s permit. My husband Bob is a talented and patient man who rounds out our family.

I get to work in many area of the Foundation’s work and ministry. I especially enjoy assisting Clay and our Board of Directors. This is a marvelously talented group of men and women who give of their experience and talent to help guide our work. I get to assist the development team and the accounting team in various areas of their work. When I am not working or sitting in the passenger seat as my daughter learns to navigate the roads of the Triangle area, I enjoy reading, crocheting, sewing/quilting and playing the piano. The next time you are in the Cary area please stop by—I’ll be the there to greet you as I have the "best seat in the house."
