Time Flies When You're Having Fun
Charles Fox, Central Area Manager
3/1/2010 -

This month I celebrate my tenth anniversary with the Foundation.  These have been the fastest ten years of my life.  Time passing so rapidly simply proves how much I enjoy my work.  Having the privilege of visiting with hundreds of churches and in the homes of some of the best people of central North Carolina is both a unique and blessed opportunity.

It's really not accurate to label my position with NCBF as work; I'm having too much fun.  Getting to know people and to hear their various life stories is far more than a job.  It means that I get the chance to become a part of their story.  These persons also become a part of my life.  My initial visit is normally as a resource to assist with some aspect of their estate planning.  However, in many instances, I find myself serving in a pastoral role as folks begin to share their walk of faith.  This is a role I welcome.

My background with nearly twenty years in some aspect of accounting also affords me opportunities to develop a level of trust which is so important in offering our services.  From the time I was a teen, I knew God was calling me to some kind of Christian service.  But it took several years after college and an earlier career path to finally see how He was using me to prepare for such a time as this.  In God's timing, nothing is wasted, although we sometimes look back over past experiences and wonder about His timing.  But He decides when we are ready, not us.

Aside from my duties with NCBF, my wife Janet and I enjoy time with our children and grandchildren as often as we can.  We are also very active enhancing our spiritual lives with Calvary BC in Winston-Salem.  In 2009 I completed a three-year term on the Stewardship and Gift Planning Committee, serving the last two years as chairman.  I also recently finished a three-year term on our church Scholarship Committee.  Both have been wonderful experiences helping individuals with their estate planning and younger adults securing funding assistance for higher education.  In December Janet began a new endeavor with Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.  After twenty-five years as an operating room nurse and nurse manager, she is now part of a team in neuromuscular disorder research.  This is proving to be a great experience for her.

You see, we're having fun in every area of our lives.
